Dataset: NASEM Marsh Terraces RGB Images

Dataset Abstract:

This dataset consists of unmanned aerial system (UAS) imagery 
taken over several days from a DJI Phantom 4 Pro carrying a 
DJI FC6310 RGB camera at various sites in southern Louisiana in 
early October 2020. Images were taken with the goal of monitoring
the efficacy of marsh terraces in helping to protect and restore
coastal wetlands.

Purpose: Collection of data is to provide visual representation of the
study area in order to assess marsh terrace effectiveness.

Data Description:

Images are taken from the Phantom 4 Pro using the onboard DJI RGB
camera. These images are then rotated using the yaw measurement from
the UAS and geolocated using a Python script that utilizes several
libraries such as Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL) and
OpenCV. As these are individual images with no overlap, no orthomosaic
has been produced.

Each projected image is in 8-bit RGB (red, green, blue) GeoTIFF format.
Internal compression is LZW, but is still significantly larger than
the original JPEG files. The goal in the future is to reduce the file
size by utilizing GDAL's GCP function on the original imagery. Using it
has proven problematic in the past.

NoData values are an RGB value of 0,0,0. This can be set to display as
NoData in GIS software such as ArcMap.

Data comes from several sites, which will be grouped into six sets.

Images were captured at an altitude of 50 ft above ground level.
